Miscellaneous madness

1. I actually managed some restraint at the year's first plant sale, but I could not resist Boophone distichta. It will probably take decades to flower, but the leaves are very cool.

2. The new Fatsia leaves are crazy looking.

3. Eat steel, cat.

Or perhaps you'd like to nibble on the Boophone instead?

"Just give me a call on my BOOPHONE!" Hahahahaha!!! That's one crazy, cool-ass plant! Am I correct in assuming from the name that this is some sort of allium relative? I wonder if I could grow one of these as a houseplant? I bet bees and butterflies LOVE those blooms...wow...I feel a plant acquisition mania coming on...

It's in the Amaryllis family, so no, not closely related to alliums. They are mostly from the summer-rainfall area, so you might be able to grow it in a pot, but I think you'll need a big-ass pot.

Also, check out Boophone ernesti-ruschii.

BTW, Boophone means COW DEATH in Greek. They're extremely poisonous.
