Goodbye Paeonia cambessedesii.
Should have listened to Tony Avent when Heronswood shut down.
What's the lesson here? If you have a favorite nursery, patronize it. Are you one of those sitting there wishing you had sent in your Heronswood order earlier? Lesson learned...if you see a special plant at a mail-order nursery, don't wait because tomorrow may be too late.
Update: Heronswood postscript.

That lesson isn't lost on me! Anytime I think it's time to limit my crazy plant ordering, I'm remined of Heronswood, and all the plants I had marked for "next year" that are gone now! Seize the plants!
The above comment by user 'Paul' was mass-spammed to dozens of gardening-related blogs by a Burpee employee with the IP 69.248.162.148 in Pennsylvania. It is a rather shoddy example of astroturfing in an attempt to simulate support for Burpee's actions. You can verify this with the following google search:

Thanks for your opinion, 'Paul'.
Thanks, anon. I suspected as much at the time, but frankly didn't even give enough of a fuck about Burpee to delete it.
On reflection, I'm now going to delete it.
