The madness

Even-half crippled from my various excavations, I can't stop thinking about Paeonia cambessedesii. But what about Paeonia mascula subsp. arietina? [Descriptions here].

(The former, native to Mallorca, would constantly remind me of mayonnaise; the latter of chickpeas. I guess that doesn't really affect the decision).

Probably I will do nothing about my peony problem this year.

I vote for Paeonia mascula subsp. arietina. Besides, mayonnaise is gross. With or without pineapple.

How about the "true yellow" peony Molly-the-Witch (Paeonia mlokosewitschii) ...hard to find, but pretty! For an image, go to

So what does yellow remind you of?

I do admire the beautiful clear yellow of what they now call Paeonia daurica ssp. mlokosewitschii, but we are resisting yellows in the color scheme, at least for now. And judging by its habitat and herbaceous habit, it will present similar problems to P. suffruticosa in my climate.
